to sand gear teeth to exact shapeIf you want to make your own sanding strip you could use a strip of used belt sander cloth.

Glue patterns to wood using Spray photo adhesive

Drill holes in Gear Blanks before turning shafts
Turn shaft diameters to suit gears -
Center punch hole centers
Use Forstener type drills to drill gear blanks dead on at hole centers -
Leave turning centers on shafts
This lets you return the shafts to the lathe and still turn concentric diameters -
Use Aircraft Grade Plywood for the gear Blanks
Don't try to make your own fancy plywood from exotic woods
Looks nice but will eventually crack or distort
Trust me. Seen it on another guys clock. Did it myself -
Do not apply any finishing material to the gear teeth
This includes oils, stains, wax, teflon lubes, WD 40 ..........
